This weekend I caught up with two of my old high school friends - Cat and P (with her daughter Z). Last time I saw these girls, was during P and her best friend Ems' birthday dinner last month. It was nice also that Cat came out to dine with us, even though she had to work at 4:30pm that arvo- Hahaha!- we did tell her to take a sickie! :P but nah, she's a good and hardworking girl! (night shifts all week! damn, don't know how she does it!...kudos to you Cat!).
It was a fab weather. Though chilly in the morning, come lunchtime the sun is sunshing and no need for our scarves and jackets, as the temp warmed us up. I caught the train that morning as P had to get Z's winter school uniform (the same place where we got our high school uniforms back in the days!) and plus wanted to get my eyebrows done early (my eyebrows are seriously high maintenance! bahaha!). I didn't end up doing it early anyways, cos we turned up practically the same time. Met them at the yum cha restaurant and it was packed!. There were people waiting for their tables (either that or waiting for their friends and families to turn up). We were ushered upstairs and were seated in the corner side of the room. A bit of a let down, cos the yum cha trolley ladies will most likely not pass by our area, compared to the middle tables (which were all occupied) and it's hard to manouver their trolleys of goods towards us. Ah well!. Anywho, we got some really good feed- fishball, dimsum, prawn toast, har gao, calamari and this crunchy fish chip looking thing (white bait?..white fish?...:S hehehe!). Too awesome. And P got the Chinese version of Taho. Though not as sweet- she actually had to ask for bowl extra sugar syrup. What I love about yum cha restaurtants- is when you have a look around the restaurant (after scoffing down some chow and you want to take a breather! :P), you see all the families and friends just dining, chatting and having a good laugh. It's a noisy atmosphere but its all about socialising. Especially if you haven't seen them for yonks!. There was this old chinese couple sitting near us, and it was cute cos they've just done their day's worth of shopping I guess, and they were sitting there sipping tea, chillaxing. At one point, I told the girls I didn't think the couple actually ate anything! cos they were just sipping their tea and the wife was always standing up and going someplace. Turns out, because of our cornered location, the old chinese lady was actually going up to the yum cha ladies' trolley and getting the food herself! :P.....well at least they got their food quickly!. Speaking of quickly, we ordered some egg tarts. And we waited for ageeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!....(I even wrote it on my FB status!). We were thinking of getting them tarts at Puffy's instead and a contemplation of either waiting for the tarts or getting another round of dumplings. Of course, we waited. Hehehe!. And when they came....it was freshly baked! (I just remembered this bakery in the Philippines, from our last trip there, called BreadTalk - And when Bonz and I were having breakfast there, the workers all of a sudden declared loudly "FRESHLY BAKED!" and clapped their hands rhythmically! My sister and I were like "woah what just happened?!" hahaha! Turns out the breads and pastries are ready!..FRESHLY BAKED! YEAH! :D). Man, we loooove chinese egg tarts!. They're buttery and flaky and sweet!. It's totally unhealthy, but hey it's ok to treat yourself once in a while (......and pounding it on the treadmill and zumba-ing it later in the week for those pending fats!).
Though we all headed home early after yum cha and browsing through the shops (and getting my eyebrows done! no more mono eyebrows til next month! woohoo!)- it was a nice catch up. I grew up with these girls and have known each other since we were in Yr. 7. We lead such busy lives now with our work, family and other commitment but it's always cool, that even though we don't call each other everyday (actually I call and probably annoy P at work, at least once, twice- ok maybe even three times a week! But she said she doesn't mind! see? I bring excitement in her working day! :D) it's just like old times when we see each other x
